Since smoking cigarettes has been around for so long, and because it is legal to smoke, we tend to regard it as an innocuous drug but the reality is very different.
Smoking cigarettes is actually very complicated, and the fact that it can be hard to stop reflects the way you take in the nicotine. This is because any drug that is smoked goes straight to the brain far more quickly than any other method, such as taking pills or injecting a drug. Most smokers are very familiar with all the health dangers associated with smoking. The fact that so many continue demonstrates how powerfully the drug can affect people.
Yet giving up can be far easier than sometimes imagined. Often, the thought of going through some 'withdrawal process' is the fear that holds people back. But continuing to do something you really want to stop makes you feel as though you are not in control of your own behaviour. There are many reasons why some people have not been able to stop and each individual has their rationale for continuing to smoke cigarettes. This is why I first take a smoking history before going on to develop a plan of action which is tailor-made to your needs.
Hypnotherapy accesses the unconscious mind directly and it's perfectly possible to change a negative programme for a better one: you really can stop reinforcing old, tired habits. Remember, the simplest changes, once explained, can make a massive difference.
After all, a habit just comes from a thought and smoking is just a habit, just like many other habits and it's a habit well-learned. But just as you have learned it, so you can unlearn it. It's never too late to undo this kind of damaging pattern of behaviour.
